The Power That Runs the World

Mostly overlooked by many people, Power is the most-consumed source of energy all around the world. Most of our daily tasks involve the use of equipment that works on electricity.

You won’t come across any infrastructure, residential, commercial, or industrial that does not have an Electrical Services supply. One cannot deny the importance of electricity, but at the same time, one should be aware of the risks that electrical appliances and electricity in general pose.

To ensure that you not only avoid these risks but also mitigate them, it is necessary that you get electrical service every now and then.

Basics

Electricity has three most basic components and they are voltage, current, and resistance.

To imagine a near image of electricity, think of VOLTAGE as like the pressure that pushes water through agarden hose. It is measured in volts.CURRENT can be thought of as the diameter of the hose.RESISTANCE is like sand in the hose that slows down the water flow.

In simple terms, an electrical circuit consists of three fundamental parts: A power source to drive electrical current around the circuit (a battery), a conductor to carry the current around the circuit (some cable) and a load that has resistance (a bulb, a heating element, a motor etc.).

Commercial / residential use

The picture is simple. Electrical maintenance is important for both businesses and homeowners, as it helps to ensure the safety of employees and residents and prevents expensive equipment repairs or replacements.

In business, the electrical servicesfor buildings consist of electrical power installations (includes generator installations etc.), lighting, lifts/escalators, fire detection and alarm systems, intruder alarm systems, and electrical systems (ICT) installations.

Most homes, on the other hand, require an electrical service of at least 100 amps (amperes).  This 100-amp service panel will typically provide enough power for a medium-sized home that includes several 240-volt appliances and central air-conditioning

Electrical work

Electrical work meansconnecting electricity supply wiring to electrical equipment or the opposite which is disconnecting electricity supply wiring from electrical equipment.

It could also mean the manufacturing, constructing, installing, removing, adding, testing, replacing, repairing, altering or maintaining electrical equipment. It also means the electrical system that we all use to run the electric energy.

Electrical system

The samples include the smartphone you use to communicate with your friends, the television set you use to watch your favorite programs, and the electrical wires running along the side of the highway.

All these are samples of the electrical system that runs a significant part of our everyday lives.

Installations

Electrical installation work has a broad range of tasks, but the most common examples involve the installation, maintenance and repair of the following items. These would include electrical devices, conductors, fittings, heating, lighting, and other power supplies.

The electrical energy that is around us are manifested in the batteries that power our electronic devices, lightning, the electrical charges moving through a wire into the wall socket to power electrical appliances (TV, computers), capacitors that store electric energy in an electric field and static electricity.

The basic electrical components include the wires, switches, resistors, capacitors, light bulbs, inductors, diodes, and transistors.

Here are some of the most common electrical service requests and requirements in residential electrical systems.

Switch and outlet repair/installations

Since this is the most used, it is common for a light switch to malfunction.  Overloads, damaged wire, or improper connection can cause it to buzz or stop working.

An outlet can fail, caused by a tripped breaker or fault in the wiring, or the outlet itself can be faulty.Fixing a switch or outlet or installing a new one requires expert knowledge of wiring along with the use of professional tools and techniques.

Electrical panel

The most important part of the electrical system is the electrical panel. This is where all the power all the power that enters the building is distributed to every circuit.

A problem here can affect your entire home. If your old service panel is rated at under 100 amps, it needs to be replaced. There is need to upgrade it to either a 100 amps panel or a 200 amps panel, depending on the size of your home and how much electricity is used.

Lighting repair/installation/upgrades

One of the most common electrical problems are flickering, dimming, Flickering, dimming, or buzzing lights. Any of these symptoms can mean you have outdated, overloaded, or faulty wiring.

There may be too many devices plugged into the circuit, or the switch may need to be replaced. Then again, you may just have a loose bulb, which can be fixed without an electrician.

In any case, an electrician can perform any necessary repairs or updates as needed. Electrical services can involve indoor lighting and exterior architectural or security lighting, as well as pool lighting (which may require transformers, buried cables, and protection against the elements).

Ceiling fan installation

Ceiling fans, which provide a cooling effect that can reduce the demand on your HVAC system, has a complex wiring. It’s not recommended to install or fix a ceiling fan as a DIY project.

Licened electricians specialize in installing fans in living rooms and bedrooms. In addition to proper mounting, these require wiring installation or updates. Otherwise, the ceiling fan may not work right or can create a shock or fire hazard.

Wiring and rewiring

A licensed electrician always performsthe wiring installation, repair, and replacement. Even with the power off, there’s the potential for shocks, burns, or electrocution if you’re not properly equipped and protected.

Every appliance, electronic device, and electrical fixture is served by wiring. A short circuit or a frayed wire may be the cause if any of these malfunctions, n electrician is equipped to quickly fix the problem or even completely rewire an old home.

Washer and dryer hookups

In new appliances, electrical upgrades are often needed to accommodate the amperage demands of an appliance. There are often specific wiring requirements as well, which the average person isn’t familiar with.

Professional electrical work isoften required for electrically-run appliances as refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, sump pumps, and other high-power devices.

All of these are part of the electrical services needed in servicing the electrical systems whether at home, and in the industrial and commercial sectors.
