How to Draw A Bubble Letter M

The letter M is the 13th letter of the alphabet, but that doesn’t mean it’s an unlucky letter! In fact, it’s one that we use quite a bit every day and it’s really fun to write about. Making an M-sound is also pretty easy, so it’s one of the first sounds many people make as babies. The letter M is easy to write, but how about a bubble letter M? That’s what we want to learn in this guide because we’re going to show you how to create a really fun version of this letter. We also show you some fun ways to color it and take it to the next level.
How to Draw A Bubble Letter M
Step 1
Writing the letter M is quite easy, but it becomes more difficult when we try to turn it into a bubble. So we will break it down into smaller steps to make it easier to handle. First, let’s start with the arc on the left side of the letter. To draw it we just draw a curved line. The reference image we provided shows you what it should look like, but it’s pretty basic. Because the letter M has so many angles, we recommend drawing an auxiliary line.
To do this, take a pencil and lightly draw a regular letter M, which is the size you want this design to be. Then you can draw the lines from this guide around the M-Pen.
Step 2
Next we’ll draw the left leg of the letter M. This leg extends from the top of the arc you drew in the first step. It will take the form of a vertical and straight shape. We’re going to curve the line a lot to create the bubble-like effect we want.
Once you’ve drawn it, you’ll notice that it looks a little like a paper clip, slightly unfolded. Try to follow the reference image we have provided as closely as possible as it may be difficult to visualize at this time. Then we can move on to step 3 to continue this project.
Step 3
You’ll notice your bubble letter M taking shape on the next row! If you followed our tip on drawing the M with a pencil, you’ll see where this drawing leads. In this third phase, we’re going to keep it nice and simple again. Now all you have to do is add a simple, slightly curved line.
This curved line runs down and out from the inner center of the shape you drew in the first two steps. The reference image will show you where to place this line. That’s all this step has to offer your letter M bubble so we can now move on to step 4 of the guide.
Step 4
Step 4 is a direct continuation of the line started in the previous step. We would actually recommend doing this next line in two steps. For the first stroke, carefully extend the line you drew in the last step upwards in a slight curve. You can then lift the pen off the page while we prepare for the next stroke. The next starts at the top of the line and then curves down to another gentle slope. It will have a slight right bend as shown in our reference image. In the next step we’ll finish the full outline of this M before we start adding some final details.
Step 5
As mentioned in the previous step, this is about completing the outline of this letter. This means that while we draw a lot in this step, we do it slowly. For this next row you want to start the bend in the middle of the M you drew in the previous step. This new line will be introduced smoothly. At the top, it is gradually bent downwards, creating a mirror image of the left side of the image. So you keep going until you make a curve at the base.
The line meets the other line at the bottom where it ended, giving you a full M shape. We’ll be adding more details, but you can see what the final shape will look like! If you previously chose to draw the M in pencil, you can now erase those lines as they aren’t needed. The next step is to add some details to make this design look like a bubble, so we don’t need the guides anymore. With that said, let’s start with the final details!
Step 6
Your letter M looks fine so far, but right now it’s looking a bit flat on the page. In this guide we are talking about creating a bubble with the letter M and we are going to do it with some simple details. First we’ll use some rounded shapes for the light reflected off the letter. These will flow into the top two points of the draft. You can place them somewhere else on the M if you want, but try to keep them on the same side to ensure an even light source.
Finally, let’s add some volume to the balloon with some curved lines. To draw these lines, you should use a drawing tool with a finer tip than you used to have. These are placed at the edges of the M’s inner contour and help make it look less flat and more bulky. Once you’ve added those lines, it’s time to add some color! However, you don’t have to move on just yet. There are other ways to complete this drawing.
